Preventing cavities and gum disease is easy with the proper oral care routine in place.
If you were to assess how well you care for your teeth and gums, would you say that you’re doing a great job or could there be some room for improvement? If you find that sometimes you don’t floss or that you may be indulging in sweets rather regularly, then you could be doing your smile a disservice in the long run. From the office of our Nashua, NH, family dentists, Dr. Salvatore Guerriero and Dr. Salvatore Colletta, here are some helpful tips for keeping your smile in tip-top shape.
Brush Twice a Day
Brushing is, by far, one of the most important things you can do for the health of your smile. It removes plaque and bacteria to reduce your risk for cavities and gum disease. Of course, it isn’t just the act of brushing that will give you a clean bill of health, you also need to understand how to brush properly. Instead of up-and-down motions, you should use gentle, circular motions, making sure to clean both the back and front of your teeth. It should take between 2-3 minutes to brush your teeth.
Flossing is Incredibly Important
Your toothbrush is a great tool for cleaning the front and back surfaces of your teeth, but in order to get in-between teeth to remove plaque and bacteria, you need to floss. Everyone should floss at least once a day, ideally before bedtime.
Receive Routine Dental Care
Preventive family dentistry can ensure that your entire household receives the dental care they need from our Nashua, NH, dentists every six months to prevent dental problems and more serious issues in the future. These cleanings can remove any plaque, bacteria, and tartar buildup left behind and reduce your risk for cavities, gum disease, and infection. Plus, if a problem does arise, these checkups can catch them early when they are much easier to treat.
